Eva Ibbotson was born in Vienna in 1925 and moved to England with her father when the Nazis came to power. Ibbotson wrote more than twenty books for children and young adults, many of which garnered nominations for major awards for children's literature in the UK, including the Nestlé Smarties Book Prize and the Whitbread Prize. Eva's critically acclaimed Journey to the River Sea won the Smarties Gold Medal in 2001. Set in the Amazon, it was written in honour of her deceased husband Alan, a former naturalist. Imaginative and humorous, Eva's books often convey her love of nature, in particular the Austrian countryside, which is evident in works such as The Star of Kazan and A Song for Summer. Eva passed away at her home in Newcastle on 20 October 2010. Her final book, One Boy and His Dog, was published in May 2011.

Alle Geschichten von Eva Ibbotson sind lesenswert. Besonders in der Originalsprache. Dieses Buch ist hervorragend für den Sommerurlaub geeignet, gemütlich im Sonnenstuhl zu lesen und die Wärme der Sonne und der Geschichte genießen.
Spannend und historisch lehrreich. Die Geschichte des 2. Weltkriegs aus österreichisch/tschechischer Sicht ist eingeworben. Eine wunderschöne Liebesgeschichte! Interessant für Musikliebhaber.
The author uses language wonderfully, evoking a real sense of that period in time and place (Austria, 1930s). One can almost see the mountains and the castle 'Schloss Hallendorf' in one's mind. The rapport between the characters is heartwarming and sentimental. It is like its title : it is like a warm, drowsy summer day which is permanently etched in one's mind. Ibbotson brings depth and wit to her characters, and when you finish the book, you are left with a feeling of warmth. Definitely for romantics, thi book. I warmly recommend this book to anyone who wants a light yet filling read. My favorite scene? When Ellen orders mineral water and Marek orders alcohol. She asks how he can drink so early in the morning. He replies, "Water is for the feet."
Ive read Countess Below Stairs a hundred times and it's one of my favourite books ever, so when I bought this one I thought it would be as good as that one. But it wasnt. It was kind of boring. I enjoyed, it was good to spend the time, but it was not so great.
